Close file X button should be on edge

The close button for a file should become active when the mouse is touching the window/screen edge. This is a basic GUI idiom (see e.g. Firefox tabs). Even if it is not drawn there it should respond to a click on the screen boundary (at the correct height) and close the file. Having it a few pixels to the left is annoying to use.
