separate file and symbol lists

I would really like to have a window layout like this:

| P | code | S |

I.e., a list of all project files to the left, the code in the middle, and a list of all symbols in the current file to the right.

So far, the project files and symbols can only be alternated in the same bar, at least I couldn't figure out a way to get what I want.
