The function fold feature is weird

When you have a function, the editor shows you a vertical line beside and a minus sign atop. When you try to select some lines and click a bit to much on the left, you click the vertical line which behaves like clicking the minus sign. Thus the function folds, what I do not want. Annoying.

Could you prevent the function to be folded on clicking the vertical line, but only when clicking on the minus sign ? Also, could you make the 'select multiple lines' easier by allowing to start clicking on the vertical line zone and draging the mouse ? Try Visual to understand... Currently, there is not enough room for the mouse pointer to correctly select the first character of the first line I want to select, I often select from the second character, because I want to avoid clicking on the vertical line, which would fold my function.
